Star Ruler

Description

Star Ruler is a real-time 4X (eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, eXterminate) strategy game set in space. Players command an interstellar empire within procedurally generated galaxies that can include anywhere from a single star system to over 10,000, limited only by their computer’s performance. The game combines expansive empire-building with physics-driven tactical warfare across a fully 3D (or optionally flattened) map, emphasizing vastness, customization, and emergent gameplay.

Gameplay centers on designing fleets and managing colonies through a highly flexible system. Players sculpt ships and stations using scalable components on various hulls, ranging from nimble scouts to titan-sized dreadnoughts, and can even manipulate planetary objects or create orbital megastructures. The game employs Newtonian physics for ship movement and damage modeling down to individual ship components. The research system utilizes a web-based structure that is semi-randomized each game, encouraging experimentation through “hunches” that can unlock unexpected technologies or links.

It encourages grand strategies through modding support, randomized galaxies and tech webs, and procedurally generated universes rife with planets, asteroid belts, and celestial phenomena. Multiplayer supports up to 10 players in co-op, team, or free-for-all matches.
