Starbase

Starbase is a 1-player arcade game for the VIC-20.

A team of scientists are working hard to prepare Planet XA2 for colonization. A strong alien force intent on capturing and enslaving these men has invaded the planet's atmosphere. As commander of the emergency force dispatched to the area, you must guard the scientists by patrolling each quadrant of the planet and destroying the attack waves of alien ships.

Sixteen scientists run about the bottom of the screen. Thirty two enemy ships appear from a distance, and when they get close, if they appear above a scientist, they will use a tractor beam to abduct the researcher. The player controls a crosshair that will destroy enemy ships if moved over the alien vessel. Gameplay occurs on a horizontally scrolling screen which incorporates 4 quadrants, and the location of scientists and enemy vessels are displayed. If the crosshair moves over a red deflector shield the player can not attack for several seconds. A level is cleared if all alien vessels are destroyed before all scientists are lost. Bonus points are awarded for remaining scientists.
