Starship Commander: Arcade
Description
Starship Commander: Arcade is a VR (virtual reality) game which is entirely controlled by the player's voice. The player takes control over the XR71 spaceship and has to steal a technology from a spy facility run by a race called the Ecknians, and blow it up in the process.
The player converses with Sgt. Sarah Pearson, their wingman, to discover the background of the mission and related topics, as well as receive orders. To control the ship, the player must explicitly begin a voice command with the word "computer" to delegate the order to the ship's computer. Although combat is also engaged in through a voice command, the specific targets are aimed at by moving the headset in their direction. Leaning can correct the ship's trajectory when needed.
The game is played from a sitting position, as the player character never leaves the captain's seat, and was originally intended to be played in VR arcades. In 2020, it was released publicly with non-VR capabilities and with a free documentary logging the development of the game.
