Still Wakes the Deep: Siren's Rest

Game cover: Still Wakes the Deep: Siren's Rest

Description

Siren's Rest is a downloadable content expansion for Still Wakes the Deep. It is a first-person narrative horror experience that serves as a standalone epilogue set ten years after the events of the base game. The DLC continues the series' focus on atmosphere, environmental storytelling, and vulnerability-driven gameplay, shifting the setting from a storm-battered oil rig to its submerged wreckage on the floor of the North Sea.

The story takes place in 1986 and follows Mhairi, the leader of a saturation diving team tasked with investigating the remains of the Beira D oil rig. The mission centers on documenting the wreck, recovering personal effects, and establishing a definitive account of what happened to the crew after the rig vanished in 1975. While the operation is framed as a professional forensic dive, Mhairi is gradually revealed to have a personal connection to the tragedy, which informs her motivations throughout the episode.

Gameplay largely mirrors the structure of the base game but adapts it to an underwater environment. Players navigate flooded corridors and collapsed structures in zero-gravity-style movement, swimming freely through interior spaces while contending with limited visibility and environmental hazards. Interaction is minimal and primarily involves opening blocked passages, cutting through metal with an arc torch, or prying objects loose with a crowbar. As with the main game, there are no traditional puzzles, combat systems, or player upgrades.

A defining mechanic is the diving umbilical tether, which connects Mhairi to her support team and serves both a narrative and mechanical role. The tether maintains communication via radio and reinforces the theme of dependence and vulnerability, while moments of disconnection heighten isolation and tension. The DLC also introduces limited stealth encounters, including an enemy presence that must be avoided rather than confronted.
