Tales of Arise: Beyond the Dawn

Game cover: Tales of Arise: Beyond the Dawn

Description

Set one year after the base game’s campaign pre-credit roll ending but before its post-credit scene, Beyond the Dawn deals with the aftermath of the convergence of Rena and Dahna into one. Mausoleums - hibernating structures of the surviving Helganquil - continue to prevent the absorption of astral energy into the ground and motivate Alphen and company to search for them and seal them down. During one of such missions, they encounter Nazamil - a bastard child of a Renan lord and a Dahnan slave, socially outcasted by both societies - on the run from a lynch mob. Finding it unsafe to leave her in town while racial tension between Renans and Dahnans is still high and the lynch mob after her still at large, Alphen and company take Nazamil along on their mission to the mausoleums, where she is exposed to a risky solution to the social issues of the new converged Dahna.

The Beyond the Dawn expansion is presented as a new story campaign launched from its own title screen and has its own save slots. Progress from your save files for the base game’s campaign does not transfer when starting this campaign, but achieving certain goals in a base campaign’s save file will give you a few head starts. The campaign starts with all party members at level 65, all titles, all cooking recipes and most cosmetics from the base campaign unlocked.

Most of the gameplay changes in the Beyond the Dawn campaign pertain to non-combat gameplay. A limited selection of areas on Dahna are accessible in this campaign, certain paths are blocked off and exits that previously lead into intermediate areas that are now skipped will teleport you to the accessible areas. Fishing remains available despite most fishing areas being inaccessible, but you are limited to the starting rod and lure.

The most significant changes in Beyond the Dawn gameplay are in the 3 new types of side content. First is Reconstruction sub-quests. Each city has its own series of Reconstruction sub-quests that upon completion will bring significant cosmetic changes to said city and add new items to its vendor. Second is Character sub-quests which deal with a specific party member’s personal issues. The reward for completing them is an upgrade to that character’s Boost Attack.

The last type of new side content is EX quests, which is a special type of side content that once activated, will suspend other sub-quests until they are completed.

Other changes in this campaign:

  • All general stores now carry crafting materials and also seafood that used to be only obtainable through fishing to compensate for the limited range of fishes you can catch.
  • 3 new cooking recipes, one of which obtained automatically in the main quest.
  • New endgame challenges in the Viscint Training Grounds. The new solo battles range from level 68 to 95. The new group battles range from level 69 to 99.
  • A merchant is now placed in the lobby of the Viscint Training Grounds.
  • New vendor: the Owl King, selling the most high-end consumables.
