The Game of the Amazons

The Game of the Amazons is a one or two player, freeware conversion of the Argentinian board game El Juego de las Amazonas.

The object of the game is to capture territory, the player who controls the most squares at the end of the game wins.

The game is played on a 10x10 chessboard where each player has four pieces that move like queens. The rules are quite simple, a piece may move to any legal square, provided the path to that square is not blocked. Once it arrives in the target square the piece must fire an arrow one or two squares in any legal direction. The square where the arrow lands is then claimed by that player and locked. Once a square is locked neither player nor their arrows can travel over it.
Players take turns to move their pieces and the game ends when one player is unable to move and the player holding the most territory wins.

The game is entirely mouse controlled and the computer opponent has three skill settings, there is also an undo feature and a save/load game feature.

Though this is a complete game that was released as freeware there is/was a registered version with more features that could be purchased, furthermore for a small fee players could receive game updates as and when they became available.
