Westward: 1847

Westward: 1847 is a 1-player strategy game for the TRS-80.

The player attempts to travel to Oregon from Kansas via overland travel. At the beginning of each journey, they must purchase oxen, food, ammunition, clothing, miscellaneous supplies, and have money left over for the journey. Each turn, the player moves progressively closer to Oregon, covering about 100 miles per turn.

Each turn, the player can encounter other riders, which may be friendly or hostile. The player can get sick or injured during encounters, and require assistance from doctors at forts. The player can also purchase supplies at forts. When low on food, players can opt to hunt using their ammunition. There are 5 levels of difficulty, which determine the amount of time the player has to type a word during the hunting section. Other encounters include flooding, which causes a loss of supplies, or encounters with friendly natives.
