Winagrams

Winagrams is a word game that comes in two forms, the single player freeware version and the full registered version.

Gameplay in both versions is the same but while the freeware game lets the player compete with a novice computer opponent the registered version has additional AI opponents and a two player mode. Both versions have functions that let the player add words to the game’s dictionary either in-game or via a menu drop down box.

The object of the game is to be the first player to construct eight words of three or more. The game starts with half a dozen or so letters being made available from ‘the pot’. Players then take turns to draw a letter and try to make a word from those available, the letter they acquired at the start of their turn does not have to be part of this word. Words can be formed either wholly from the letters available or by modifying one of the player’s or their opponent’s words. However when modifying a word the player must create a word with a new ‘root’, so changing ‘bring’ into ‘bringing’ is not allowed but the word ‘upbringing’ is allowed.

In addition to the game there is an option to find anagrams from a given set of letters but this only finds single words and then only if they are in the game’s dictionary.
