Word Heads

Description

Word Heads is an educational game about the English language. It is modeled like a TV: after selecting the character, the player switches through the game's sections with a TV remote control. When switching channels, there is a fictional advertisement to watch. The head part of the title comes from the stylized characters: they have small bodies and very big heads. The latter are photograph stills which are animated through stop motion. The main portion are three mini-games:

  • Go Figure is a quiz show modeled after Hollywood Squares. There are nine (parodied) celebrities which are arranged in a 3x3 square. Each round, the player chooses one celebrity who explains the meaning of an idiom and the player has to agree or disagree. Each correct answer rewards money - the amount depends on the difficulty level, -and a false answer takes away money. It also colors the head and makes it unavailable for further rounds. The winning condition is to create a row or column of three colored heads, but that's only relevant when playing with two players.

  • Meet Your Match is another quiz show with a dating theme. Every round, the game presents word parts (e.g. "slack", "high", etc.) and the player has to combine them to create words with a given meaning within a time limit. Each correct answer rewards money (the amount depends on the difficulty level) and brings the player closer to the goal: meeting their dream date. Just before that dream comes true, there is a bonus round during which the player has to create as many different words as possible within a time limit.

  • U News is a parody of a news show. The player chooses a number of words and sound effects and then the game creates a news story with them.

The earned money can be spent in the in-game shop. For sale are cosmetic items (new heads and bodies, changes to the mini-games, etc.) and word puzzles.
