World of Colours

Description

World of Colours is an educational game for children. The main menu consists of a colourful, hairy, fantastical beast and three options: Colourings, Colour Games and Exit.

The Colourings option opens a menu screen showing eight paintings, each of which represents a fairy story such as Cinderella, The Ugly Duck, The Ice Queen etc. The player selects one of these and is presented with a set of nine line drawings which they can colour in using the on screen paintbrush and palette.

The Colour Games option opens a menu with six mini-games:

  • Arranging The Screen: This is a jigsaw game with eight puzzles. In each puzzle a famous painting has been cut into shapes and the player's task is to reassemble them. Once assembled, the name of the picture and the artist is announced.
  • Patterns & Colours: The player is shown two line drawings, one of which has been coloured in while the other is not. The task here is to colour in the blank picture so that it matches the completed image. When the task is complete, both images show a short animation.
  • Gallery as an Expert: This is a Concentration-style game. It is the only game/activity to have a leaderboard.
  • ABC of Painting: This activity is not a game. The player selects a letter and is shown a short piece of text which is also read out loud. The subjects are varied, for example, 'F' gives an explanation of fresco while 'V' gives a short biography of Leonardo Da Vinci.
  • Colours in English: This shows the seven main colours on the right of the screen with their names given in Polish. A picture is shown in the window on the left along with a piece of dialogue such as "The plum is violet". The player then selects the appropriate colour from the list and, if they are correct, the plum is coloured in and a new picture appears.
  • Palette for the Young Painter: This explains how the three primary colours combine to give secondary colours and derivative colours.

There are written instructions for some activities, but most have spoken instructions so a sound card is needed to understand how to play. This game runs directly from the CD.
