Game cover: X-Wing Fighter II

Description

X-Wing Fighter II is a 1-player arcade game based upon the trench run from Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope.

Gameplay is divided into two unique sections. The player has a total 100 laser blasts and 4 torpedoes available. In the first section, the player must reach the trench of the Death Star. To do this, the player must use their lasers to destroy a number of enemy vessels based upon difficulty level. Gameplay is from a 1st person perspective, where the player must line up a crosshair with moving enemy vessels to destroy them. Enemies fire missiles towards the player, which they must dodge. One hit, and it's game over. The distance to the Death Star, as well as horizontal and vertical direction is displayed. As the player approaches the trench, they must direct their vessel towards 0,0, or they'll miss the trench.

During trench descent, the player goes into auto-pilot, but must rapidly stabilize their craft when prompted, or they are destroyed.

During the trench run, the player now combats 2 enemy vessels from the front, but must also dodge attacking vessels from the rear. A rear radar is displayed, and if an enemy craft aligns directly with the player, they are destroyed. Autopilot prevents destruction by running into the trench edge.

Finally, as the player closes within 350 meters of the end of the trench, a special targeting sequence to launch a torpedo at the Death Star exhaust port commences.
