Angry Bergs

Posed as part of Shell Oil's catastrophic ArcticReady.com campaign for Arctic oil drilling (but actually masterminded by Greenpeace and The Yes Men), this game puts the player in charge of an offshore oil rig under assault by swarms of calved glacier icebergs (or bergs) resulting from the climate change produced by, yes, carbon emissions caused by human petrochemical use.

The player's goal is to click the mouse on every glacier set on a collision course with the stationary derrick before they crash together and release massive amounts of toxic crude sludge into the fragile Arctic ecosystem. The longer play goes on, however, the more bergs swarm the drilling platform (in a berg rush?) until their chance encounter together becomes inevitable. The game, then, is played for high scores, with a full game of mere seconds being rewarded with a score represented by a ludicrously high monetary value.
