Description

Book of Demons is a single-player action role-playing game with deck-building mechanics. The story is set in the troubled Paperverse, where a once-peaceful town is overshadowed by a cathedral harboring evil in its catacombs. Players take the role of a hero returning after years away, only to find the land corrupted by monsters and ruled by a demon deep within the dungeon. The hero must descend into the labyrinth, confront the corrupted forces within, and restore balance to the town.

The core gameplay is built around simplified dungeon crawling combined with card-based abilities. Players move along predetermined dungeon paths, exploring rooms, fighting monsters, and looting treasures. Combat is real-time but governed by cards that represent weapons, armor, spells, and consumables. Cards replace traditional inventory, with the player managing a limited number of active slots and balancing resources like mana and charges. Defeating enemies and exploring dungeons rewards new cards, upgrades, and gold for further customization.

Progression is tied to both character growth and equipment upgrades. Each card can be enhanced using runes, while talismans offer passive benefits. The game’s Flexiscope system allows players to choose the length of each dungeon run before entering, scaling the amount of enemies and rewards accordingly. This feature lets sessions be tailored for short or extended play. Three distinct classes are available: the Warrior, Rogue, and Mage, each with their own card sets and combat styles, encouraging different strategies.

The dungeon layouts are semi-randomized, offering new challenges across multiple runs. Monster types increase in complexity as the player descends, introducing enemies with resistances, status effects, or unique behaviors. A town hub provides NPCs such as the Fortune Teller and Sage, who assist with card identification, upgrades, and lore.
