Die CD-Rom mit der Maus 2
Description
Die CD-Rom mit der Maus 2 is the second game in a series of the educational German TV program Die Sendung mit der Maus, known for its blend of humor and factual storytelling. This installment centers around the theme of birthdays, offering a variety of activities, games, and creative tools tied to preparing for and celebrating a party.
The CD-ROM is structured around a colorful virtual birthday table, which serves as the main navigation hub. From here, children can access themed content designed to entertain and engage them both on and beyond their own birthday. The "birthday bouquet" section, for example, provides printable tips and ideas for party games, such as "Fishing for Candy" or "Chocolate Sniffing," alongside simple craft projects, decorations, gift suggestions, and recipes—such as a Swedish birthday breakfast.
Creative expression is encouraged through features like the music-making machine, which allows children to compose their own songs using nearly 50 different instruments, sound effects, and noises. Music can be "painted" in a unique visual interface, blending auditory and visual creativity. Completed compositions can be saved for later playback.
The software includes a variety of mini-games and puzzles that challenge concentration, memory, and problem-solving skills. These range in difficulty and are designed to support independent play or shared experiences with family and friends. Classic types of activities include matching games, visual riddles, and simple logic challenges. Hidden throughout the interface are six games with varying levels of difficulty, offering a sense of exploration and discovery.
As with the first CD-ROM, Die Maus 2 features several of the television series’ well-known “Lach- und Sachgeschichten” ("fun and fact stories"). These segments, narrated by Armin Maiwald, present age-appropriate educational content in an entertaining format, such as explanations of how musical instruments like the bagpipe or jaw harp are made.
