Fairground

Fairground is a 1-player arcade game for the BBC Micro. The player controls a character at the bottom of the screen that moves laterally at the bottom of the screen and fires vertically.

Items move across the screen in three rows in opposite directions and, when an object runs off the bottom level, they appear again at the top. A smiley face moves across the top of the screen. The player must shoot six of these, but if the smiley face crosses the screen one more appears. Smiley faces will sometimes move towards the bottom of the screen, and steal three bullets. Intermittently numbers move across the screen, and these can be shot for additional bullets.

The letters FA, IR, GR, OU, ND start at the beginning of each level, and if these are shot in order the player scores a large bonus. The player has a limited number of bullets, and it's game over when these run out. If the player shoots all items on the screen they move to the next level.

The player then starts a bonus round where they have to shoot a man moving on the screen. Every time the man is shot he reverses direction. This continues until the man escapes off the edge of the screen.
