Idle Dino

Game cover: Idle Dino

Description

Idle Dino is a single-player, casual clicker game. Like many clicker games the basic gameplay is straightforward, there is a dinosaur on the screen, the player clicks on it and this earns coins, the more clicks the player makes the more coins are earned. Coins can be spent in one of the following ways;

  • The player can unlock the next level dinosaur where each click earns more coins.
  • The player can upgrade their Growth Power which again makes each click worth more coins.
  • The player can unlock and upgrade the in-game auto clicker which means the game plays itself and the more this is upgraded the faster the rate if clicks it records.
  • When the game becomes a bit too grindy and further progress is laborious the player can opt for a 'Rebirth' which wipes out all progress made so far but, on restart, each click is worth more coin. Though the player loses all progress in this process the game has recorded the challenges they have completed, there are no bonuses for achieving them again.

As the game progresses everything becomes progressively more expensive and the player has to make choices regarding steady but increasingly slow progress or a restart and replaying all the early levels. There are sixty three dinosaurs in the game and each new dinosaur unlocked earns a new Steam achievement, there are also achievements for five and ten 'Rebirths'. Each level has two challenges, one for growing fifty dinosaurs and another for growing five hundred, which earn bonus coins. The player has an additional feature, there is a dinosaur landscape which can be explored. This scene is initially quite bare but as more creatures are unlocked they appear in the scene swimming, fighting and generally doing what dinosaurs do.

The game plays in a window, this cannot be changed, and once the auto-clicker feature is unlocked it will play itself while the player does other things.
