Meimon! Takonishi Ōendan: Kōha Roku-nin Shū
Description
The first video game adaptation of Meimon! Takonishi Ōendan has little to no story to speak of and uses its licenses mainly for recognizable faces on units in a turn-based tactical RPG. Through 17 stages in the campaign, you battle with different rival highschool gangs in urban-themed grid maps. Each units have 4 stats: PW MAX (Health), movement range, punch strength and kick strength. These stats improve when your units level up from defeating enemies.
On the tactical map, combat is initiated when a unit moves to a square occupied by an opposing unit. When combat starts, a fist from the enemy portrait will fly toward your unit's portrait. You have 3 seconds until it reaches your unit's portrait to select a command in response, failing which the enemy unit will get a free hit. The commands available in combat are: punch, kick, special move, item defense, punch defense, kick defense, special move defense and retreat. Depending on how you choose, the possible outcomes of a combat turn are: mutual damage, one side's attack interrupting the other's attack, missed attack followed by a counterstrike or missed attack without follow-up. A unit losing all health is hospitalized and will recover after 2 battles. Losing a battle does not result in a game over. Instead, you have to start over from the first battle with the current gang (not the first battle of the campaign) while retaining your units' experience.
The grid map on some stages has some special locations. Hospitals are where you can get health recovery for the visiting unit and discharge your hospitalized unit early (if you have one hospitalized). Manholes are fast travel portals and come in pairs. Upon going down a manhole, you are put through a side-scrolling minigame where you must jump over yellow balls in a sewer like barrels in Donkey Kong to get to the exit on the other side which lets your unit emerge at the other manhole connected to the one you went down. Sometimes, health-recovering blue balls also pass through these sewers. Other special locations just contain hidden enemies and items.
