MindsEye

Game cover: MindsEye

Description

MindsEye is a cinematic third-person action game. It presents a narrative-driven experience set within a semi-open world, combining traditional gameplay with user-generated content capabilities. The open-world elements are primarily used as connective space between story-driven objectives rather than for emergent or systemic gameplay.

Set in the fictional desert metropolis of Redrock City, it follows Jacob Diaz, a former soldier suffering from memory loss and psychological trauma linked to a mysterious neural implant called the MindsEye. As Jacob navigates Redrock and its surrounding regions, he confronts flashbacks and fragmented recollections while uncovering the truth behind the implant and his past. The narrative explores themes of artificial intelligence, corporate greed, technological overreach, and systemic corruption.

The game features a blend of on-foot shooting and vehicular action, with players engaging in cover-based combat and piloting a wide array of cars through open-world environments. Gameplay includes linear missions, occasional stealth and drone segments, and set-piece driving sequences. MindsEye also showcases creative user-generated content through in-game portals, allowing players to access side missions and activities built using its custom level creation tools.

Vehicles play a central role in navigation and mission structure. The game includes a range of near-future vehicle designs. Players are generally required to use mission-assigned vehicles; free vehicle use, including commandeering civilian cars, is restricted. Combat features ranged encounters against both robotic and human enemies. Players can carry multiple weapons, which are added to the inventory automatically over time. Enemy behavior varies, with robotic opponents occasionally allowing for targeted dismemberment. The game does not feature a melee combat system. A companion drone is introduced later in the game, offering abilities such as remote explosives and enemy control, which can be used to supplement direct combat. Post-campaign content includes access to a separate free-roam mode.
