Islands of Insight

Description
Islands of Insight is a first- and third-person puzzle exploration game. It blends elements of massively multiplayer online (MMO) games with a non-combat, open-world structure focused entirely on puzzle-solving. The game is set in a fantastical, mythologically inspired world of floating islands and emphasizes individual exploration and intellectual challenge over narrative or social interaction.
The game features over 10,000 puzzles categorized into 24 unique types, including logic, spatial reasoning, pattern recognition, movement-based challenges, and environmental puzzles. Players control a customizable avatar known as a Seeker, whose objective is to explore various airborne islands, solving puzzles to progress and unlock new abilities and zones. The game is designed to be non-linear, allowing players to choose their path and the types of puzzles they engage with.
The game incorporates light RPG mechanics, including a mastery system tied to specific puzzle types and abilities such as double-jumping and gliding. Puzzle completion grants in-game currencies like Sparks and Mirabilis, which are used to unlock new areas and progression milestones. While a guiding questline exists, the majority of gameplay is open-ended, with the player determining their level of engagement and pace.
Initially launched as an MMO, Islands of Insight includes an optional solo mode added post-release. Multiplayer features are minimal and non-competitive; players can see others in the game world and interact minimally through messaging, but all puzzles are instanced, allowing multiple players to work on them simultaneously without interference. There are no cooperative or adversarial mechanics, and online presence primarily serves to add a sense of shared space.
The game world is characterized by floating islands with architecture inspired by various mythologies, including Greek and Egyptian motifs. Environments are rendered in a stylized, illustrated realism art style, emphasizing serene landscapes, ancient ruins, and vertical traversal opportunities. Visuals are complemented by a classical, ambient soundtrack intended to support the game’s meditative tone.
