Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound
Description
Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound is a 2D action platformer, blending classic Ninja Gaiden gameplay from entries in the series from the late 80's and early 90's, with modern mechanics and presentation. Players control Kenji Mozu, a young ninja from the Hayabusa clan, trained by series protagonist Ryu Hayabusa. When demons attack his village during Ryu’s absence, Kenji is forced to team up with Kumori, a skilled assassin from the rival Black Spider Clan. Their uneasy alliance becomes central to the game's narrative, as they work together to stop a demonic invasion and seal away the Demon Lord.
Gameplay focuses on fast-paced, precision-based combat and platforming. Kenji uses a katana for melee attacks, while Kumori offers ranged support with kunai and special weapons. Players can switch between the two characters to combine their abilities, and unlock powerful techniques known as Ragebound Arts. Combat is further deepened by the Hypercharge system, which rewards players for defeating enemies with glowing colored auras. Each aura corresponds to a specific type of attack—such as katana strikes for blue or kunai for purple—and landing the correct hit builds a Hypercharge. This powerful charge can then be used for instant kills or to stagger bosses. There is also the Guillotine Boost, a movement mechanic that lets players bounce off enemies and projectiles for chained aerial navigation and attacks.
Levels are linear with collectibles, hidden paths, optional challenges and boss fights. The game includes a scoring system that encourages speed, combo chains, and creative use of abilities. There are optional difficulty modifiers, bonus stages, and unlockable equipment.
