Palworld is a single-player and multiplayer open-world survival action game with a focus on monster-collecting and base-building.

The story is set in a frontier-like world where humans coexist with mysterious creatures known as Pals. These beings can be tamed, bred, and employed in everything from farming and industry to combat. The player takes the role of a customizable adventurer who arrives in this wilderness with the goal of surviving, exploring the land, and building a thriving settlement. While the narrative is minimal, the focus lies in the player’s relationship with the Pals and the freedom to decide how they are used, whether as companions, workers, or soldiers in battle.

Gameplay blends survival mechanics with creature collection. Players explore forests, mountains, deserts, and ruins, gathering resources to craft tools, weapons, and structures. Hunger, health, and stamina must be managed, requiring players to hunt, farm, or rely on their Pals to sustain themselves. A day and night cycle, weather effects, and hostile environments create ongoing challenges in exploration and survival.

Combat occurs in real time, combining third-person shooting and melee mechanics with Pal-assisted abilities. The player can use firearms or crafted weapons while Pals unleash elemental powers, tank damage, or provide ranged support. Capturing new Pals requires weakening them in combat before deploying special capture devices. Boss encounters and raids by hostile groups add higher-stakes confrontations, testing both the player’s skills and their team composition.

Progression is tied to building settlements and researching technology. Bases can be expanded with crafting stations, defensive structures, and automated production lines. Pals assigned to these tasks perform labor such as mining, logging, or maintaining farms, allowing the settlement to grow. New technologies unlock better equipment, advanced weaponry, and larger capture devices, pushing the player toward new regions and tougher challenges.

Breeding Pals creates new generations with inherited traits, and some combinations unlock rare species. Morality is shaped indirectly through the player’s actions, as Pals can be treated as cherished allies or exploited as disposable resources in dangerous work. Trade and black-market dealings provide economic alternatives to self-sufficiency, and optional dungeons and hidden ruins offer lore fragments and rare rewards.

Multiplayer allows cooperative survival or competitive raiding, with players joining others online to share resources, defend settlements, or battle for territory.
