Description

Rollerdrome is a single-player third-person shooter and extreme sports hybrid game. The story takes place in a dystopian near future where the world is dominated by a brutal bloodsport known as Rollerdrome. Contestants compete in televised arenas wearing roller skates and wielding firearms, battling waves of armed opponents called House Players. The player takes on the role of Kara Hassan, a newcomer to the sport, with the goal of climbing the tournament ladder, surviving increasingly dangerous matches, and uncovering the truth behind the corporations controlling the spectacle.

Gameplay combines high-speed skating with precision shooting. Players move through arenas on roller skates, constantly generating momentum to perform jumps, flips, and grinds while engaging enemies. Combat is tied to style: ammunition is limited and can only be replenished by performing tricks such as grabs, spins, and grinds. This creates a balance where survival depends not only on eliminating enemies but also on chaining stylish maneuvers to sustain resources.

Weapons expand during progression and include pistols, shotguns, grenade launchers, and railguns, each suited for different enemy types and tactics. The combat system encourages variety: weaker enemies can be dispatched quickly with dual pistols, while shielded or heavily armored foes require heavier weapons. Time-slowing mechanics allow for precise aiming in midair, letting players line up critical shots while performing stunts. Enemy types include snipers, mechs, and riot guards, forcing players to adjust strategies within each match.

Progression is structured around stages that must be completed with specific performance objectives. Players earn points for eliminating enemies, completing trick chains, and finishing levels quickly. Each stage includes challenges such as performing certain tricks, defeating enemies in unique ways, or reaching score thresholds. Unlocking later tournaments and arenas requires completing these objectives. Leaderboards track high scores globally, encouraging competition for mastery and optimization.

Between tournaments, limited first-person exploration sequences place Kara in locker rooms and corporate offices, where she can examine documents, overhear broadcasts, and uncover environmental storytelling about the dystopian society and the sinister role of the controlling corporation, Matterhorn.
