Mullet MadJack

Description
Mullet MadJack is a single-player first-person roguelike shooter. The story takes place in a neon-lit cyberpunk future where society is controlled by media-obsessed mega-corporations. The player assumes the role of MadJack, a mercenary with a cybernetic mullet who must climb a corporate tower to rescue an abducted influencer. His survival depends on maintaining a constant feed of adrenaline through violent combat: every sixty seconds, he must kill an enemy to reset a countdown timer or risk instant death.
Combat is fast-paced and heavily focused on chaining kills. MadJack wields a variety of weapons such as pistols, shotguns, and energy arms, each with distinct firing patterns and reload speeds. Defeated enemies drop weapons and temporary power-ups, encouraging players to keep moving and swap armaments often. In addition to firearms, melee strikes and finishing moves allow for close-quarters takedowns, creating a blend of ranged and hand-to-hand combat that keeps the timer replenished.
The game is structured around procedurally generated floors of the tower. Each level presents compact arenas filled with enemies, traps, and environmental hazards. Players must clear rooms quickly while navigating vertical layouts and branching paths. As in many roguelikes, death is permanent, sending the player back to the start, but experience and familiarity with layouts contribute to faster progress over repeated runs.
Progression is tied to upgrades earned between stages. Completing floors rewards currency that can be invested into permanent enhancements, including health boosts, weapon modifiers, and special abilities. Temporary upgrades, called buffs, can also be collected during runs, granting short-lived advantages such as explosive rounds or improved movement speed. These systems encourage experimentation with different builds and playstyles while maintaining the high-risk, high-speed loop.
Visual design takes inspiration from late-20th-century anime and arcade shooters, with bold outlines, exaggerated effects, and a saturated color palette. The soundtrack uses fast electronic beats to reinforce the constant pressure of the timer.
