Rue Valley
Description
Rue Valley is a narrative driven RPG set in a desolate desert town trapped in a time loop. The story follows Eugene Harrow, a man sent to Rue Valley for therapy, who soon discovers that the town and its residents are caught repeating the same 47 minutes over and over. To break the cycle, Harrow must investigate the mysteries surrounding Rue Valley and help its inhabitants confront their personal struggles.
Gameplay combines exploration, dialogue, and puzzle-solving within the constraints of the time loop. Each cycle allows Harrow to experiment with actions, interactions, and choices, using knowledge gained from previous loops to unlock new possibilities. Conversations with townspeople play a central role, as small details and emotional revelations gradually expose the truth behind the anomaly. While the overarching story follows a fixed structure, player decisions influence dialogue paths and personality development.
At the start of the game, players define Harrow’s personality by assigning traits and mindsets that affect available dialogue and interactions. Status effects dynamically alter behavior, such as becoming more sociable under certain conditions or more cautious when anxious, creating an evolving psychological profile that shapes how others respond. The "memory graph" system records discovered intentions and emotional insights, allowing players to trace connections between characters and events across loops.
Each 47-minute cycle emphasizes time management and prioritization as items and actions reset when the loop restarts. Players must plan routes, anticipate character routines, and solve environmental puzzles before time runs out. The limited inventory and branching logic encourage efficiency and experimentation, rewarding creative thinking over brute force.
