Ruyn HD

Description
Ruyn HD is a modern remake of the minimalist shooter Ruyn. This updated version preserves the fast, combo-driven gameplay of the original while introducing enhanced visuals, smoother controls, refined audio, and optimized mechanics.
The game consists of short, intense levels designed to keep players constantly moving. Armed with a small but versatile set of weapons, players must eliminate waves of enemies and reach the level exit. The gameplay emphasizes speed, fluidity, and simplicity, echoing the spirit of classic "boomer shooters" while incorporating modern performance improvements.
A key feature is its combo system, which encourages players to chain kills and actions together to maintain a score multiplier. After each enemy defeat, a combo bar appears, rapidly depleting unless the player secures another kill or collects a gem. Creative combat is rewarded: using a variety of weapons or tactics earns style bonuses, while repeating the same approach reduces point potential. Players are also incentivized to complete levels quickly to earn additional time-based bonuses.
Weapons share common ammunition types across variants. For example, shotgun shells power both the single-barrel and double-barrel shotguns, while plasma ammo works across the plasma rifle and trident. Players can strategically switch between weapons to manage ammo effectively and maintain kill combos.
Ruyn HD is entirely free to play, with no advertisements, microtransactions, or digital rights management. It also includes Ruyn Classic, the original version of the game, as part of the package. Both versions support user-created content through shared level editors, allowing players to design custom stages and play them in either style. The level editors and original game files are open source and released into the public domain, although the Unreal Engine code for the HD version remains closed due to licensing restrictions.
