Ruyn

Description
Ruyn is a minimalist, lightweight first-person shooter designed with simplicity and performance in mind. Inspired by Anarch, it delivers fast-paced, retro-style shooting action with a small file size. The entire executable is just 66 KB, while individual levels are under 5 KB uncompressed and often around 500 bytes when compressed—making the game accessible on nearly any system.
The game offers gameplay built around speed, combos, and enemy elimination. Each level challenges players to defeat all enemies and locate the exit. Players seeking high scores can take advantage of the game’s combo system: each enemy kill triggers a combo bar that rapidly depletes. Defeating another enemy or collecting a gem before the bar runs out increases the score multiplier. Sustaining combos and finishing levels quickly are key to climbing the online leaderboards.
The game includes both 2D and 3D level editors, along with a launcher that allows players to download new levels, upload their own creations, and compete on level-specific online leaderboards.
Ruyn keeps weapon management simple. Ammo is shared across similar weapon types: collecting shells unlocks both the single-barrel and double-barrel shotguns, while plasma pickups power the plasma rifle and trident. Players can switch between weapons based on the situation—using the single-barrel shotgun for rapid fire or the double-barrel for more powerful shots, helping maintain combo chains and maximize scores.
Controls are available for both keyboard and gamepad users, supporting traditional WASD movement, mouse aiming, and gamepad stick control for accessibility across devices.
The entire project, including the source code and its associated tools (called Neko), is released into the public domain, allowing players to modify, share, and expand the game as they wish.
