Sakamoto Ryōma
Description
Sakamoto Ryōma is a cancelled Famicom RPG briefly promoted in Japanese game magazines around 1988. Dubbed a "History RPG" in advertisements, it appears to play like Dragon Quest. Captions next to advertised screenshots appear to show Sakamoto embarking on a journey from historical Tosa province to the capital city, then-named Edo and studying in first-person view as a method of growing your character.
Other advertisements for the game show parts of the game like character sprites and environment under development in a certain editor interface, seemingly scattered on the same table as a prototype, unshelled Famicom cartridge and a reference photograph of Sakamoto Ryōma himself. Famitsu advertisements initially set a 1988-08 release, later pushed back to 1988-09 window. The game did not receive further promotion since.
