Shiei no Sona-Nyl: What a Beautiful Memories

Shiei no Sona-Nyl: What a Beautiful Memories is a Japanese adult fantasy visual novel. It is the fifth game in Liar-soft's Steampunk series and the second after Shikkoku no Sharnoth: What a Beautiful Tomorrow to be set in Seikyō, an alternate-history Earth.

In an alternate 1907, steam-powered civilization has blanketed New York in perpetual smog and darkness, culminating five years prior in the Great Disappearance that wiped out the surface population and twisted the underground into a distorted realm. Scholar Elysia Wentworth, haunted by the loss of her mentor, explores the surface ruins seeking remnants of humanity, while amnesiac girl Lily awakens below in the distorted underground, compelled by instinct toward a distant tower.

The story is divided into chapters, with the perspective switching between Lily and Elicia throughout the game. Although Shiei no Sona-Nyl does not feature choices or branching routes, each chapter ends with a special segment where the player must evaluate newspaper reports about the Great Disappearance and find inconsistencies between what they’ve read and what was reported. Failing one of these segments will result in the player being locked into a bad ending in the following chapter.
