StarCraft: Ghost

Game cover: StarCraft: Ghost

Description

StarCraft: Ghost is a canceled third-person shooter set in the StarCraft universe. The player would control Nova, a Terran Ghost, and would be able to fight at close and long range, utilize her personal cloaking device and psionic abilities, and platform around certain areas.

The singleplayer mode would take place after the events of Brood War, but the story points would change several times over the course of development. Nova would start the game as an agent of the Terran Dominion, specifically the Nova Squadron of covert operatives, and would learn of a conspiracy surrounding Project Shadow Blade that would force her to choose between loyalty to her squadron commander Jackson Hauler and the Dominion leader Arcturus Mengsk.

In the multiplayer mode, players could control different infantry units and drive different vehicles seen in the original StarCraft. It would feature several modes including deathmatch, team deathmatch, capture the flag (CTF), King of the Hill, Capture the Base/Mobile Conflict (two infantry teams fighting to control a mobile factory) and Invasion (two teams fighting to control nodes across the map for points, with more points allowing more powerful units to be used).

The game was notorious for frequent delays, and even changed developers in 2004. It was effectively cancelled in 2007 or 2008, though Blizzard Entertainment would initially insist on the term "on indefinite hold".
