The Kings of the Dark Age

The Kings of the Dark Age is a turn-based medieval strategy game with real-time battles. The game features economic aspects, military and political management, and real-time battles including castle siege. The campaign mode includes 17 scenarios played in 14 different medieval European countries. In the early missions the player must start the construction of the city of Aachen, build fortifications to protect own power in the immediate region, get rid of the Vikings and eliminate corruption. Economic aspect includes taxes, agriculture, resources, nutrition, research, trading and production. Foreign and local diplomacy may signify a military support and delivery of raw materials. The game offers a lot of random encounters such as natural disasters, hunger, disease, thieves, tournaments or stake.

The battles are played in a real-time mode, comparable to a less extensive and less detailed version of Medieval: Total War. Each of 28 available units (including catapult and battering ram) is described by differing values, such as speed, attack and defense, recalculated into damage and losses. These values may be changed by the influence of the monks. The player can decide attack behavior and basic troops commands.

Beside the campaign mode the game consists of single-player and multiplayer battles for up to four players.
