Tower of Alos
Description
Tower of Alos is a 1-player roleplaying game for the BBC Micro.
The valley was once ruled by a fair king called Alos. He built three strongholds in his land. One he gave to a young dragon called Temadra, another to his brother, and the last was left to his soldiers. Alos then built himself a large tower, 13 levels high. However, Alos became enraptured by black magic, which caused terrible damage to his land, ushering in an invasion of evil beings which crushed Alos' army, and threw the land into terror.
The player moves their character on a large map consisting of forests, the marsh, the Temple of Bragi, four towers, village, and the hoard. The player can buy healing potions at the village (up to nine at a time) and gold can be stored at the hoard. The brother's tower is a safe area where the player can regain hit points and gain experience levels. When entering any of the hostile towers the player fights multiple rounds of 10 monsters at a time. In the swamp, the player can enter burrows to find monsters or engage in random combat.
The player gains experience points and treasure from fighting monsters. When encountering enemies in the forest, the player can choose to attack or retreat. In combat, the player is surrounded by monsters and chooses which direction to attack. The player and enemies automatically take turns engaging. The more gold the player carries, the slower they will attack in a fight.
To complete the game, the player must reach level 7, clear Temadra's Den, The Garrison, The Temple of Bragi, and the Tower of Alos, as well as collecting four magic items and a boat, then returning to the safe castle.
