Tropical Poker

Description

Tropical Poker is a single-player, mouse controlled simulation of the popular casino machine. It appears in a couple of eGames compilations including Casino Jackpot 2, which is where this version of the game comes from.

The name Tropical Poker is derived from the game's graphic theme and does not refer to some exotic variation of poker. At it's heart this is a standard implementation of 'Deuces Wild' poker and, in common with most poker games, the aim of the game is to make the best 5-card hand. in video poker, unlike other forms of poker, the player does not win by beating other players but by compiling a hand that exceeds the game's minimum hand, which in this case is three of a kind, to score.

The game gives the player $1,000 to start with and on each hand the player can bet between $1 and $5. They are then dealt five cards and they can hold/discard any of these, however if they are dealt a winning combination such as three of a kind then, in the default configuration, those cards are held automatically. A redeal is then made to replace the discarded cards and the final hand is evaluated. If the hand scores higher than three of a kind then the player is paid a fixed sum depending on the original stake and the game continues.

The F1 key brings up an in-game menu which gives the player access to the in-game help file, game statistics, and toggles both the sound and the auto hold option. The game has a high score table but does not preserve the player's winnings from one game to the next.
