Woodbury End

Game cover: Woodbury End

Description

Woodbury End is a text adventure for the BBC Micro and Electron.

It was a cold winter's night back in the early '50s when they came: Silently and unnoticed they drifted down through the clouds to shelter in the woods, in the northeast of Woodbury End. In the days that followed, life in the village carried on as normal, until several strangers began to arrive in the small community. These settlers were treated with suspicion at first, but were strangely and inevitably accepted into the fold.

For the next 20 years things settled down, until the fair called Paradisia arrived in the town on a hot summer day in the late '70s. Since that time villagers started keeping to themselves, troubles were not shared, and children began acting strangely, more withdrawn and introverted. The player finds themself waking up in a darkened room, tied with a rope, and their memories erased.

The player must escape or avoid the townspeople who have been taken over by the aliens, and must help rescue the possessed children. The ultimate goal is to expose the alien menace and destroy their spaceship. The game proceeds in real time, and the player must quickly complete many tasks to save the townspeople. A series of cryptic hints helps guide the player.
