BattleStar

Game cover: BattleStar

Description

BattleStar is a single-screen shooter where the player pilots a starship tasked with destroying the object in the center of the screen. The goal is to target and shoot the object's core. However, this is made challenging by defense structures - essentially rotating straight lines that pass through the core. When hit, these lines shorten. Each time the player successfully destroys the core, the next begins with increased difficulty. In higher levels, the core retaliates by shooting projectiles at the player, and power-ups like extended shield time become available for collection.

The game controls resemble those of Asteroids: the player can rotate the ship left and right and move forward. Shots are fired in the direction the ship is facing. There are two flight modes: normal and easy. The easy mode removes inertia for simpler control. The ship can sustain two hits before losing a life, and the game ends when all lives are depleted. A protective shield can be activated for a limited time.

The registered shareware version adds co-op two-player mode, grants access to all 50 levels, enables a save function, and offers the option to record demo videos.
