Description

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is an action game and the sequel to Death Stranding. Set eleven months after the events of the first game, the game follows Sam Porter Bridges, now living in seclusion with Lou in Mexico. When Fragile requests his help to expand the Chiral Network across Mexico and Australia, Sam is drawn back into a mission to reconnect humanity in the wake of continued supernatural threats. Australia, ravaged by environmental disasters and otherworldly entities, serves as the game's primary setting. As Sam and his companions journey across the continent, they face escalating threats from both human and non-human forces, questioning the consequences of reconnecting a fractured world.

The game retains the third-person, open-world structure of its predecessor. Gameplay centers on traversal, logistics, and environmental navigation, with players managing cargo distribution and movement across rugged terrain. New to the sequel are expanded delivery systems, more complex terrain deformation, and new tools such as deployable shelters, amphibious vehicles, and enhanced exoskeletons. Players must balance load weight, equipment, and pathfinding as they traverse varied biomes affected by Timefall, a rain that rapidly ages organic material.

It also introduces a greater emphasis on combat and player choice, allowing for direct confrontations, stealth tactics, or evasion through difficult terrain. Players can utilize an expanded arsenal of weapons, vehicles, and tools, including customizable vehicles, drones, and experimental equipment like the "blood boomerang". Natural disasters such as earthquakes, sandstorms, and flash floods dynamically alter the environment, affecting traversal and mission planning.

A skill system known as the Automated Porter Assistant System (APAS) lets players enhance Sam’s abilities across combat, stealth, and delivery efficiency. Equipment and perks are unlocked by completing missions and side objectives, offering various approaches to gameplay challenges. The social Strand system returns, allowing asynchronous cooperation with other players by constructing infrastructure such as roads, bridges, and a new monorail system, facilitating faster transportation of goods across the continent. Players also have the ability to customize and command automated delivery bots, participate in cooperative missions through temporal anomalies, and explore indoor environments and vertical settlements. The chiral network has evolved into a multidimensional infrastructure, offering expanded narrative paths and player influence over regional development.
