Description

Microzine is an educational disk-based magazine published by Scholastic between 1983 and 1992. Each issue generally contains a simple adventure game, often with a Choose Your Own Adventure Style. Issue no. 16 contains:

  • Letter from the Editor - Look at this episode of Microzine
  • Tickets to America - A Choose Your Own Adventure style game. Seeing the success of other Italian immigrants, you and your young brother or sister decide to seek your fortune in America. The player must carefully listen to clues before crossing the ocean, and manage their funds, so that they can answers questions correctly on Ellis Island to allow access to America. Once in America, the player can navigate the streets of New York City from a 3rd person perspective. The player must work, find lodging, learn English, and carefully manage their funds. Their goal is raise $30 to provide fare for their young sister to come to America as well.
  • Shifty Shapes - The player must rotate and move several shapes to completely fill a variety of larger containers. The player is rewarded a score for how quickly they can solve each puzzle.
  • Solar Pilot - The player is the captain of a solar-powered dirigible. The player must drop off passengers at a variety of locations throughout fantasy land. The player controls their compass and anchor to navigate their vessels. On higher levels, they navigate weather fronts and thunderstorms, and can radio ahead to distant locations to get weather reports.
  • Fantastic Places - A database of 151 interesting locations both real and imaginary
