Description

Rebel Galaxy is a single-player space simulation and role-playing game. The story begins when the player inherits command of a large capital ship after a mysterious message from their long-lost aunt, Juno. Searching for her leads the player to a remote sector of space filled with outlaw factions, corporate interests, and alien civilizations. As the new captain, the player must balance personal investigation with survival in a dangerous frontier, deciding whether to follow Juno’s trail, build a fortune through trade, or rise in power through piracy and mercenary work.

Gameplay takes place in a two-dimensional plane despite its three-dimensional environments, with ship combat focusing on broadside exchanges similar to naval battles. The player maneuvers their vessel to line up heavy weaponry while also deploying turrets, secondary guns, and special abilities. Ships range from nimble frigates to massive dreadnoughts, each with different loadouts, armor, and speed. Combat includes targeting subsystems, managing shields, and balancing offense with evasive maneuvers.

Progression is tied to upgrading and customizing the player’s ship. Credits earned from missions, salvaging, or trade can be spent on new hulls, weapon systems, defenses, and components. Modules such as tractor beams, deflectors, or missile systems provide tactical options. Mining asteroids, recovering cargo from wrecks, and looting destroyed ships add to income and resources.

A dynamic economy underpins trade and smuggling. Commodities fluctuate in price across stations, allowing for profit through buying low and selling high. Illegal goods can bring higher rewards but risk encounters with local authorities. Missions can be accepted from stations or factions, ranging from escort and bounty hunting to delivery and salvage operations. Reputation with factions influences available contracts and how groups react in open space.
