Renegade Robots

Renegade Robots is a 1-player arcade game for the BBC Micro.

The planet is currently under threat of invasion. To counter this threat, scientists have invented a totally new weapon that is being guarded in a manufacturing plant staffed entirely by sophisticated robots. However, a series of explosions have caused the robots to violently spiral out of control.

The player controls a small character who moves in the cardinal directions in a room filled with crates. These crates can be pushed to trap and crush rampaging robots. A crate when pushed will move in that direction until it hits another crate or the edge of the screen, and then will be destroyed. Green robots chase the player through the maze, while purple robots will also push and destroy crates. At the start of each stage, the preview timer counts down indicating the time until robots start to appear. Only four robots appear on the screen at a time, but as they are destroyed more can take their place as displayed on the bottom of the screen. If the bonus timer reaches zero or all robots are destroyed, then the player moves on to the next stage.

Each level has an additional robot to contend with. Three special key cubes are present on each level. The player scores bonus points if these are used to destroy a robot, and these key cubes can not be destroyed. The player also can also score a large bonus if all 3 cubes are aligned, and an extra life if they are aligned with the flashing cube in the center. The player starts with 3 lives.
