Star Citadel

Star Citadel is a modern web-based take on the old arcade classic Star Castle by Cinematronics from 1980. The game pits you, piloting your small but nimble lone space fighter, against a large and heavily armoured central cannon that fires devastating energy ball projectiles. The cannon is surrounded by rotating layers of shields that you must shoot your way through in order to land a deadly hit on the cannon itself. In addition, the cannon sends out homing mines to harass, distract, and destroy you if you let them get too close.

The game starts out fairly easy, but quickly gets more difficult as you progress through the levels, as both the cannon and shields rotate more quickly. The energy ball the cannon fires also increases in size and speed, and the mines get faster, and home in on you from different directions.
