Description

Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition is a single-player open-world role-playing game. The story takes place after Earth is destroyed during a war between alien civilizations, leaving humanity to search for a new home. Survivors establish the city of New Los Angeles on the uncharted planet Mira, a vast and hostile world filled with alien life and mysterious ruins. The player controls a customizable protagonist who joins BLADE, an organization tasked with protecting the colony, recovering the scattered pieces of the colony ship White Whale, and ensuring humanity’s survival in this unfamiliar environment.

The gameplay is centered around real-time combat with a focus on positioning, timing, and team synergy. Characters can freely move around the battlefield, auto-attacking nearby foes while executing skills called Arts. These Arts include melee strikes, ranged attacks, support techniques, and debuffs, each with cooldowns and combo potential. A central mechanic is the Soul Voice system, which allows the player to chain Arts in response to prompts from teammates. Enemy targeting zones and weak points play a role in tactical positioning.

Progression is tied to character growth, job classes, and the acquisition of increasingly powerful equipment. Each character can specialize in different combat roles such as ranged damage, melee combat, or support. New abilities and Arts are unlocked as classes advance. Loot from defeated enemies, exploration, and quests provides resources to upgrade weapons and armor, while enhancements called augments improve stats and grant additional effects.

A defining feature is the use of Skells, giant mechs that players can eventually pilot. Skells greatly expand combat capabilities by granting access to heavy weapons, flight, and vehicular mobility across Mira’s sprawling landscapes. They can be customized with different loadouts and parts, balancing energy consumption and firepower. Managing Skell insurance and fuel adds strategic depth, as losing a unit in battle carries penalties.

Outside combat, exploration and survival are emphasized. Mira is divided into massive regions, each with its own geography, weather, and dangerous wildlife. Surveying regions by planting probes expands fast-travel points, extracts resources, and contributes to colony development. Systems also include affinity mechanics that track relationships between party members and NPCs, influencing side quests and unlocking new dialogue. Numerous optional missions expand the lore of Mira and provide equipment or resources. Online features allow asynchronous interaction, including squad-based objectives where players can contribute to global tasks, and the ability to share and recruit avatars created by other players.

The Definitive Edition introduces updated visuals, expanded tutorials, and quality-of-life features such as improved navigation, refined menus, and adjusted quest tracking. It also rebalances combat pacing and Skell progression, making late-game systems more accessible.
