Unicorn Overlord

Description
Unicorn Overlord is a single-player tactical role-playing game. The story follows Alain, the exiled prince of Cornia, whose homeland has been conquered by the usurper Zenoira. With the aid of the ancient Ring of the Unicorn, Alain gathers allies from across the continent of Fevrith to unite fractured nations and lead a rebellion against the oppressive empire. The player takes command of Alain’s growing liberation army, liberating towns, recruiting warriors, and forging alliances to restore order to the land.
The game combines large-scale strategic exploration with real-time tactical combat. Players move their forces across an overworld map where towns, roads, and strongholds must be reclaimed from enemy control. When armies meet on the field, battles unfold automatically between squads assembled beforehand, with positioning, unit composition, and class synergies determining the outcome. Units operate semi-independently once deployed, requiring players to carefully plan formations and ability priorities before engaging.
Progression is tied to both individual characters and their squads. Fighters, mages, knights, and other classes gain levels and equipment through experience, loot, and purchases, while squad formations can be expanded with more units as the campaign advances. The player manages morale, stamina, and battlefield resources to maintain momentum during long campaigns, and strategic victories reward gold, materials, and access to new recruits.
Combat depth is enhanced by the use of tactics slots, where skills can be assigned with conditional triggers such as countering ranged attacks or healing allies at specific thresholds. Weather, terrain, and time of day can further influence the flow of battle, requiring adjustments in strategy to maximize squad performance. Boss encounters and unique enemy leaders introduce mechanics that test team composition and long-term resource management.
Outside of combat, secondary systems shape the army’s strength and the story’s direction. Rebuilding liberated towns provides resources, trade routes, and resting points, while completing side quests builds loyalty with allies and unlocks new dialogue scenes. Relationships between characters are strengthened through conversations and gifts, opening up support bonuses and narrative vignettes that expand on the cast’s personalities.
