Anno 2205

Game cover: Anno 2205

Description

Anno 2205 is a single-player city-building and economic simulation game. Set in the year 2205, the player assumes control of a megacorporation tasked with securing humanity’s energy future. With Earth’s resources dwindling, corporations compete to expand their influence by colonizing new territories, constructing advanced cities, and ultimately establishing a lunar base. To achieve this, the player must balance economic growth with technological development while providing for an ever-expanding population.

Core gameplay focuses on building and maintaining production chains. Residential districts generate workforce demand, while industrial buildings convert raw resources into consumer goods such as food, electronics, and medical supplies. Each type of citizen requires increasingly advanced products, and shortages can disrupt stability. Logistics are handled by road networks, transfer stations, and automated trade routes, which move goods between production facilities and population centers.

The game introduces multiple biomes, each with distinct challenges. Temperate regions provide fertile land for agriculture, while arctic zones require heat-generating facilities to sustain life and unlock rare resources such as methane ice. Progression eventually reaches the Moon, where players build self-sufficient colonies to harvest fusion-compatible isotopes, linking them back to Earth’s infrastructure to resolve the planetary energy crisis.

Strategic layers supplement city management. The world map allows corporations to expand into new sectors, adding fresh construction zones and resource opportunities. Players also command a fleet of ships in real-time tactical scenarios that take place in separate combat maps. These missions involve escorting transports, defending installations, or eliminating enemy forces, rewarding resources and upgrades that feed back into economic growth.

Research projects unlock building upgrades and efficiency boosts. Corporations can acquire rivals’ sectors, enter trade agreements, and invest in technologies that improve logistics or reduce maintenance costs. An investor class eventually appears, demanding luxury goods in exchange for high revenue, further complicating production balance.

While Anno 2205 retains the series’ focus on detailed economic planning, it differs from its predecessors by removing traditional multiplayer and focusing entirely on a single-player experience. All sectors are persistent and interconnected, encouraging players to manage multiple cities across Earth and the Moon simultaneously. Technical enhancements include modular building upgrades, scalable UI, and a seamless transition between city and global views.
