Islanders: New Shores
Description
Islanders: New Shores is a single-player city-building strategy game. The game is set across a chain of procedurally generated islands, where the player takes on the role of a settler tasked with building thriving communities in remote locations. There is no fixed narrative, but the experience is framed around exploration and expansion, with the player placing structures, growing settlements, and moving on to new islands once the current one has been developed to capacity. The main objective is to achieve the highest possible score by efficiently arranging buildings and making the best use of limited space.
Gameplay revolves around selecting building packs and placing them on the map to earn points. Each structure generates points depending on what surrounds it, rewarding players for creating synergies such as positioning farms near fields or placing markets close to houses. Poor placement, such as putting incompatible buildings next to each other, yields fewer points. Once the player has accumulated enough points, new building packs unlock, expanding options for construction and specialization.
Progression continues as players fill each island with buildings. When enough points have been earned, the option to travel to a new island becomes available. Each island introduces different terrain layouts and available resources, requiring the player to adapt placement strategies to suit new conditions. Failure to reach the point threshold before running out of buildings ends the session. A sandbox mode removes scoring constraints entirely, allowing for creative freeform construction. Buildings are drawn from a randomized pool, ensuring that no two playthroughs are identical.
