Landfall
Description
Landfall is a 1-player game for the BBC Micro.
As captain of the space ship Falcon, the player is in control of the return of an exploratory flight deep into outer space. The ship has made many fantastic discoveries, from intelligent gas-based lifeforms to a strange race of radioactive dwarves. As the ship approaches the outer limits of the solar system, the crew realizes they're running out of fuel to make it back to Earth. The ship must make an emergency landing on Mars.
Played from the cockpit viewpoint, the player must carefully navigate the ship. The player has 10 levels of engine burn, from off to maximum deceleration. As the ship speeds up it heats up, and if the shields hit greater than 5000 °C, the ship will burn up. The ship must land at a velocity of less than 10 m/s to land safely. The player has limited fuel to manage the descent. The player must also manage X and Y velocity to safely land, keeping the ship aligned with the landing zone.
