The Ferryman Awaits

The Ferryman Awaits is a text adventure for the BBC Micro and Electron.

The player takes on the role of Mold, a former dung heaper in the prosperous City of Furgle, who unfortunately has now taken on the role of human sacrifice. The player ended up in this position after joining the Adventurers' Guild in a bid to improve their life. They were accepted, but tasked with killing the demon Agrogorggan. The player attempted to sneak into the demon's castle of Kluf by pretending to be one of the many human sacrifices that the local pirates sell to the demon's priests. The player now finds themself tied up and paralyzed, about to be sacrificed to the demon lord.

All commands are via VERB NOUN entry. There is a save/restore feature. The player must explore the tower and the local environs in their quest to kill the demon. Uniquely, when the player is killed they go to the land of the dead. There, they can choose to wait to cross the river Styx and end the game, or if they possess certain items, can actually explore the land of the dead and return to the living at any time.
