Description

Space Hi-way is a 1-player arcade game for the BBC Micro.

As owner of a little fuel station just off a large intergalactic highway, the player must defend their station from deadbeat aliens who try to steal the player's fuel. The player controls their doublesupersaturatedphoton-plasmalasertransientalblaster base, which moves laterally at the bottom of the screen and fires vertically. The player tries to destroy waves of alien ships. Some of these rotate along the highway, with their position shown on the top of the screen, while others may exit off the highway and attempt to steal the player's fuel.

If the player shoots too quickly, their shot power decreases, which is displayed at the bottom of the screen. The player has limited fuel, and firing and movement decreases this. If fuel drops to zero the ship explodes. Fuel can be gathered by shooting the supports of fuel tanks, causing the tanks to fall to the bottom of the screen. If the fuel is shot, it's lost. If an enemy vessel reaches the bottom of the screen, it steals a large amount of fuel and turns into a rocket. This rocket blasts off and fires rapidly towards the player. Bonus lives are awarded every 10,000 points.
