Higurashi no Naku Koro ni: Onikakushi-hen

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni: Onikakushi-hen is the first part in the Higurashi: When They Cry visual novel series. It is a simple visual novel without branching paths or choices, where the player simply advances the text to read the story. After finishing each chapter, the player unlocks a number of optional bonus scenes called "TIPS".

The protagonist is Keichii Maebara, a teenage boy who has recently moved into the remote Japanese village of Hinamizawa. Keichii quickly develops a close friendship with a group of schoolgirls and joins their game club. However, he soon discovers that Hinamizawa harbors a dark secret, connected to the yearly Watanagashi festival and the supposed curse of the village's guardian deity.
